Alpine White over Sorrell Tan
Final-year Range Rover Classic with approximately $89,000 in documented restoration and recommissioning over roughly the last 6,000 miles, including nearly $48,000 by Congleton Service.
At Congleton, the truck received approximately $25,000 in panel-off/glass-out paint and restoration work, plus rust repair, corrosion protection, interior, ABS/electrical and suspension work. The Alpine White paint remains excellent with no notable dents, scratches or defects. Side moldings were deleted for a cleaner look, tasteful later-model Range Rover decals were fitted, and the upper tailgate was replaced with an aluminum unit. Chrome presents beautifully, seals/trim are largely new or restored, and the sunroof works perfectly with no leaks.
The Sorrell Tan interior is exceptional. Restored burl walnut presents beautifully with only a few fine cracks in the center-console wood. Carpets are excellent, the headliner is tight, and the soft plastics, door panels and speaker covers are outstanding. Many commonly deteriorated plastic pieces were replaced. Front seat bottoms were reconstructed using OEM 1995 Sorrell Tan leather for a correct factory match. Seat ECUs and heated-seat elements were replaced. Dynamat and new insulation make the truck unusually quiet. Custom wool CocoMats are fitted; original OEM rubber mats are included.
A Jaguar Land Rover Classic Infotainment System provides Bluetooth and navigation, with a discreet integrated backup camera. Every electrical feature currently works as designed, including locks, windows, defrosters and sunroof. Cruise control was fully rebuilt, and the door-lock and electronic hatch-lock systems were recommissioned. Books, multiple keys and original working central-locking key fobs are included. European side markers are fitted; upgraded LED headlights and original markers are included.
Mechanically, the truck is thoroughly sorted. The BorgWarner transfer case was supplied by Ashcroft Transmissions in the UK as a fully rebuilt exchange unit and professionally installed. All ignition components have been addressed, including the amplifier, coil, plugs, cap, rotor and wires. Fuel-injection sensors, MAF, stepper motor, vacuum/emission/coolant hoses, belts, tensioner, filters, fluids, engine/trans mounts, battery, ground cable, relays and other age-related items have also been addressed. The engine starts immediately, runs quietly and smoothly, and the engine bay is exceptionally clean with upgraded stainless hardware.
The cooling system was rebuilt with a new all-metal radiator, thermostat, hoses and related components. The A/C received a new compressor, condenser and receiver/drier and blows ice cold. A heater-core shutoff and subtle ceramic window tint were also added for maximum performance.
Suspension, steering and ABS work includes shocks, steering damper, bushings, ball joints, anti-roll-bar components, swivel/hub work and ABS pump/valve-block service. The truck drives firm but compliant with zero clunks, rattles, wandering or highway-speed vibration and rides on new Pirelli Scorpions.
The original air suspension was converted to conventional springs, although the associated components appear to remain intact. Unused suspension switches were replaced with a Discovery coin tray; originals and removed mud flaps are included.
With approximately 113,000 miles, nearly all of this restoration and recommissioning has occurred within the last 6,000 miles. Hundreds of owner hours have gone into the smaller details that separate a visually restored Range Rover from a genuinely sorted one.
The result is a final-year LWB Soft Dash that can realistically be driven every day, taken on a long trip or brought directly to a car show. It presents beautifully, operates as it should and gets compliments virtually everywhere it goes.
